Why Are Fashion Manufacturers Apathetic To Plus-Size Woman?

Already harassed, embarrassed, and accused by near and dear ones, colleagues, and strangers, the hapless women, like me, fail to even alleviate their pain with a nice dress.

As a plus-size woman, I am appalled by the apathy of the fashion industries.

I find it surprising that despite their ‘big frames’, how till today, plus-size people (here I would like to refer to girls/women) are dehumanized. They are looked down upon, ill-treated, and constantly criticized. The circulating jokes everywhere sound so mean and crude.

I mean, how can you completely nullify a person by such redundant standards? And, by disrespecting others, how can you rise and shine?

When does the word ‘fat’ become ugly?

You will be salivating when you receive a fat sum of money. A fat share in the company’s decision-making can make you happy. Increased score in the mark sheet inspires you. Even a fat baby appears cuddly.

And, when it comes to adult human beings, the adjective ‘fat’ suddenly turns ugly.

From talents to being active, everything gets associated with weight. I would like to remind you that the excess weight of your unnecessary and putrid opinions also upset the poise of other human beings.

Skinny is not healthy, fat is not unhealthy!

No one loves to be unhealthy.

However, what catches the eye isn’t always the ideal truth. There are many factors leading to weight gain. Moreover, stuck trauma inside the body can make weight loss almost impossible. Without knowing their life stories, how can you be biased towards them?

The marketing giants and the fashion conglomerates only aggravate the situation. Already harassed, embarrassed, and accused by near and dear ones, schoolmates, colleagues, and strangers, the hapless women, like me, fail to even alleviate their pain with a nice dress.

Where is the inclusive society?

Even today, despite plus-size influencers, and screams for an ‘inclusive society’, there are separate plus-size beauty contests, and minimum plus-size friendly stores in the market.

Not everyone is tech-savvy to buy from online apps. Buying plus-size attire is also a costly affair. Again, such clothing is mostly available in rayon and synthetic material. Now, in the generally hot and humid climate of India, who can wear such material?

Overall, a plus-size woman has to acquire a poor shopping experience.

Why can’t multi-branded stores like Pantaloons, Shopper’s Stop, Trendz, and the like, be inclusive of every size? A store like WestSide or Zudio has a limited size (hardly XXXL). Strangely, even girls’ dresses are mostly slim!

Can they not understand the need of the hour?

Why are big-size budget clothes so hard to get!

Why can’t plus-size women get comfortable wearing in shopping malls and everyday marketplaces?

They can bring in budget-friendly cotton regular wear. Even inner wear too deserves a mention. Either it is too costly, or unavailable. The maximum size is XXL. Why cannot it go beyond the XXL? Be it a blouse, ethnic wear, or a fancy dress, a ‘big-size’ within budget and preference, is still a long-distant dream.

When the multi-storey stores support size-inclusivity, the local and small shops will also make a move. Everyone isn’t ultrarich. Everyone isn’t of young age.

Sometimes the elderly can love to change into such dresses. After all, the dressing should bring in comfort and a ‘feel good’ vibe.

Already, women are pressed under various circumstances. At least when she can fit into nice wear (without alteration), she can be a little better and think beyond the stench all around her.
