My dear husband, I am already doing things I thought I could not do, I am bringing up two very fine, wonderful boys, who would contribute towards a better world.
It was a very hectic day yesterday.
We were watching the 10 pm news on TV, which is a part of our daily routine and I really don’t know why but a sigh escaped my lips. My husband who was watching me looked at me with a face full of guilt.
He said, “I know you are tired, you don’t get time for yourself. I have always told you, it’s not about career or money but you should do something for yourself. Find a passion.”
He continued, “Don’t worry, everything will fall in place, you must do the things you think you cannot do”.
I said, “Thank you so much, so here is the list of things, I think I cannot do”.
I wanted to continue, but I looked at his face and I laughed out loud. Poor man, he did not know what was coming.
I told him, that I am happy the way I am. I am passionate about being a mother. Motherhood is all about learning about all the strengths you never knew you had. It is all about conquering your fears. I love staying at home and looking after the kids.
I said, “My dear husband, I am already doing things I thought I could not do, I am bringing up two very fine, wonderful boys, who would contribute towards a better world.”
He held my hand and smiled.

UP Boards Topper Prachi Nigam was trolled on social media for her facial hair; our obsession with appearance is harsh on young minds.
Prachi Nigam’s photo has been doing the rounds on social media for the right reasons. Well, scratch that- I wish the above statement were true. This 15-year-old girl should ideally be revelling in her spectacular achievement of scoring a whopping 98.05% and topping her tenth-grade boards. But oddly enough, along with her marks, it’s something else that garners more attention – her facial hair.
While the trolls are driving themselves giddy by mocking this girl who hasn’t even completed her school yet, the ones who are taking her side are going one step ahead – they are sharing her photoshopped pictures, sans the facial hair, looking nothing less than a celebrity with captions saying – “Prachi Nigam, ten years later”.
Doctors have already diagnosed her with PCOD in their comments, based on photographic evidence. While we have names for people shamed for their weight – body shaming, for their skin colour- racism, for their age- age shaming, for being a female- sexism, this category of shaming where one faces criticism for their appearance has no name. With that, it also has zero shame attached to it.
