Eksha shared that it was her father who encouraged her to take up physical fitness classes as well as biking. While she wasn’t aware of boxing classes being available, her father introduced her to them. She grew passionate about combat sports and partook in national boxing tournaments.
At 19, she landed a job with the Sikkim Police Force while completing her graduation. As the eldest daughter and sole breadwinner of the family, Eksha worked hard to secure the position. She underwent 14 months of disciplinary training before getting transferred to the State Reserve Line.
After joining the police force and becoming a rider and boxer, Eksha had more to achieve. She took part in the Positude Miss Sikkim 2018 and made it to the top 10 finalists. She aspired to appear on MTV Supermodel of the Year.
Supported by her parents and peers, Eksha auditioned for the second season of the MTV show and got selected. Eksha revealed how her rigorous police training helped her face all the challenges such as physical strength on the show. She was among the top 9 contestants in the show.

After showing her modelling skills in MTV’s Supermodel of the Year, Eksha wishes to model on an international platform. She stated that she hopes to compete in Asia’s Next Top Model next and would love to do modelling while continuing to work for the Sikkim Police Department.
While her aspirations swell to international levels, Eksha remains grounded and is proud to receive love from people across India, her homeland. She wishes to keep serving her people as a police officer and bring more accolades back.
Like so many other upcoming young Indian women, Eksha Hangma Subba again teaches girls across India to never settle. We may see ourselves in the bounds of an occupation or a single aspiration, but we can be so much more. It is encouraging to see more such women proving the same.

Children should be taught to aspire to be successful, but success doesn't have to mean an IIT admission only!
Imagine studying for 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 whole years for the JEE exam only to find out that there’s only a very, very slim chance of getting into an IIT. It is a fact widely acknowledged that the IIT-JEE is one of the toughest exams not just in India but in the whole world. Apart from IITs, the NITs and IIITs of India also accept the JEE scores for admission. There are said to be a total of 23 IITs, 31 NITs and 25 IIITs across the country.
Now, let’s first get a few facts about the IITs right. First, according to the NIRF rankings of 2023, only 17 IITs rank in the top 50 engineering colleges of India and only a few (around 5) IITs are in the list of the world’s top 100 engineering colleges. Second, the dropout rate of IIT-qualifying students stands at least at 20%, with reasons being cited ranging from academic pressure and unmanageable workload to caste discrimination and high levels of competition within the IIT.
So, it’s quite clear that the journey of making it through IIT is as challenging as the journey of getting into an IIT. Third and most important of all, the acceptance rate or the odds of getting into an IIT are below 3% which is a lot lower than the acceptance rate of highly and very highly ranked US universities. Four, getting into an IIT of one’s choice doesn’t mean one will also get into a branch of one’s preference at that IIT.
