Spring/summer is officially here! The season is for lively, easy-breezy, and exuberant fashion. With warmer, fun-filled, sunny days ahead, now is the time to keep away your blazers and jackets back in your closet to reunify with your ideal summer staples!
The secret to making the most of this playful season with panache and ease is to make sure that you have an accomplished range of comfortable and casual summer outfits handy for various occasions. It is all about creating a functional wardrobe with stylish yet comfortable pieces. Certainly, tank tops, classic white t-shirts, and pieces of denim are cult favorites. But, when we talk about summer fashion, the first thing that comes to mind is –the maxi dress. From casual to formal, maxi dresses in lightweight and sheer fabrics are one of the summer staples for every girl.
Well…first things first. A maxi dress is impeccably comfortable. You can spend your entire day in this chic yet casual outfit. Moreover, it looks great on most figures, is suitable for all body types, and is extremely versatile. From an Indo-western, unpretentious look in the office to those summery boho-beach vibes for your next holiday; you just cannot go wrong with this free-flowing attire. With an assortment of solid bright hues, prints, and patterns; there are various trending styles and designs for summer maxi dresses available to keep you at ease in humid and warm weather without compromising on the glamour quotient.
To achieve the effortless yet glamorous look with this versatile summer piece, you must stick by a few fashion rules-
Basic solid monochrome hues are the easiest to style. You can also add adaptability with easy-to-mix and match options so that this elegant summer piece can be worn for various occasions. For example, a dress in a solid neutral color such as black, grey, white or navy blue is perfect as they are super easy to dress up and goes with absolutely anything.
This floor-sweeping chic silhouette looks flattering on all body types though a maxi dress with larger scale prints and dark patterns will typically work best and complement a full-figured, frame. However, a maxi dress with smaller prints will suit best a petite lady. Therefore, the general rule is to wear prints that are scaled to your body size. Overall, long vertical prints are just perfect for slimming down any body figure.
A huge part of accessorizing a maxi dress for summer consists of choosing appropriate adornments. Most importantly, the shoes. Adding the right kind of shoes is key. For a night out you can even pair high heels or stylish flats. A wedge will add a little height and style for a summer party or a casual date. While a flip-flop with a hat is flawless for a summer-boho vibe and beach vacation. Apart from the correct footwear; a tote bag, statement jewelry, and a dash of makeup are all you need to style up a maxi dress for summer weddings.
Wearing a lightweight denim jacket is also a perfect way to style casual spaghetti strap maxi dresses. Dress it up or dress it down, denim comes with plethora of choices. The shorter-length jackets are preferable as longer ones can get a bit disorganized if it does not have a proper shape to them. The definitive denim jacket in diverse indigo washes or a crisp white denim jacket has always been a popular choice for summer wear, specifically when it comes to layering a maxi dress for cooler summer evenings.
Yes- you heard it right! Some maxi dresses can be loose-fitting making you look like you are wearing a tent or a box. An easy fix is to try a belt, scarf, or ribbon at the waist as it adds definition to your natural waist.
It’s time to add some fun and peppiness to your summer closet with maxi dresses. All thumbs up for this floor-sweeping, chic, and stylish silhouette!

Can you believe this bloke compelled me to wear only saris - full time at home- till the eighth month of my pregnancy?! The excessive heat coupled with humidity made my life miserable.
Recently when I browsed an interesting post by a fellow author on this very forum I had a sense of déjà vu. She describes the absolutely unnecessary hullabaloo over ladies donning nighties and /or dupatta –less suits.
I wish to narrate how I was in dire straits so far wearing a ‘nightie’ was concerned.
I lived in my ultra orthodox sasural under constant surveillance of two moral guardians (read Taliban) in the shape of the husband’s mom and dad. The mom was unschooled and dim-witted while the dad was a medical practitioner. But he out-Heroded the Herod in orthodoxy.
My supervisor introduced me as a valuable member of the team, emphasizing my skills and contributions rather than focusing on my gender identity. This simple act set the tone for my experience in the workplace.
As a transwoman navigating the corporate world, I had encountered my fair share of discrimination and challenges. Transitioning without the support of my parents and having limited friendships in my personal life made the journey difficult and lonely. However, when I stepped into the office, something remarkable happened, I left behind the stress and negativity, embracing a space where I could truly be myself.
Joining the marketing team as a graphic designer, I was initially apprehensive about how my colleagues would react to my gender identity. But to my surprise, the atmosphere was welcoming and respectful from day one. My supervisor, Sarah, introduced me as a valuable member of the team, emphasizing my skills and contributions rather than focusing on my gender identity. This simple act set the tone for my experience in the workplace.
As I settled into my role, I discovered that my colleagues went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and included. They consistently used my correct name and pronouns, creating an environment where I could be authentically me. Being an introvert, making friends wasn’t always easy for me, but within this workplace, I found a supportive community that embraced me for who I truly am. The workplace became a haven where I could escape the stresses of my personal life and focus on my professional growth.
