The recent Google Doodle around the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup captures the passion of women who play professional football beautifully!
Almost everyday every one of us googles for something, and it has become a part of our lives. Since a few years now, Google features a special graphic element called Google Doodles which are versions of its logo to honour or commemorate special days, people and occasions.
I’am always curious about these doodles and have the habit of searching for the reason behind each Google doodle. A recent doodle that instantly grabbed my attention was the incredible one released to mark the official opening of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup which embraces the power and strength of women.
This doodle has a cartoon of women wearing different football jerseys and playing the game.
It brings me such immense happiness that the folks at Google have decided to make this doodle an art series which will be published over the month of June during the tournament. These special doodles will be made by guest artists representing each of the competing countries. France is the host for the eighth edition of the tournament and a total of 24 countries are taking part.
This new doodle has green letters accompanied by the cartoon of women playing soccer.
In a blog post about this series, Google said, “Each Doodle will capture the local excitement of the World Cup competition as well as what soccer means to the guest artist personally”. The blog post includes the entire list of 24 artists who will be participating.
Over the years, Google has come up with many doodles that celebrate those breaking barriers. Commemorating women from various fields has been a recent practice which delights us viewers and helps us realise the inner strength of women who came out to pursue their passion!

UP Boards Topper Prachi Nigam was trolled on social media for her facial hair; our obsession with appearance is harsh on young minds.
Prachi Nigam’s photo has been doing the rounds on social media for the right reasons. Well, scratch that- I wish the above statement were true. This 15-year-old girl should ideally be revelling in her spectacular achievement of scoring a whopping 98.05% and topping her tenth-grade boards. But oddly enough, along with her marks, it’s something else that garners more attention – her facial hair.
While the trolls are driving themselves giddy by mocking this girl who hasn’t even completed her school yet, the ones who are taking her side are going one step ahead – they are sharing her photoshopped pictures, sans the facial hair, looking nothing less than a celebrity with captions saying – “Prachi Nigam, ten years later”.
Doctors have already diagnosed her with PCOD in their comments, based on photographic evidence. While we have names for people shamed for their weight – body shaming, for their skin colour- racism, for their age- age shaming, for being a female- sexism, this category of shaming where one faces criticism for their appearance has no name. With that, it also has zero shame attached to it.
