They say that a lie can travel halfway across the world as the truth is putting its shoes on. In these days of fake news, this has never run so true. How should we keep ourselves sane and well-informed, then?
They say that a lie can travel halfway across the world as the truth is putting its shoes on. In these days of fake news, this has never run so true.
How should we keep ourselves sane and well-informed, then?
Who do we believe?
R says: My aunt once told me, “What is history? It is ‘His Story’”.
So, the history which we base all our knowledge on is probably based off facts, but still the perspective of the person and the times he/she wrote it in.
You see how all great men in politics, religion etc. were all men!
Probably, if women wrote history, our history books would have different stories to tell.
News, too, has always been a perspective worsened by political polarization in case of political news, corporate polarization in terms of any other news, and sometimes corporate polarization in case of political news too!
As far as news and other information go, I think we are in better times, because free media and anonymous modes to spread information have given us access to information which we never had before.
So yes, how do we pick and decide? Well, it is tough. Probably listen to all the different perspectives and decide for ourselves what sounds right to us.
Or decide based on the ‘reputation’ of the news item.
The other day, I was reading an article which talked about moving from information age to ‘reputation age’.
With the availability of so much information, we tend to rely on information which has been filtered, evaluated and commented on by others. Essentially, we believe what the mass believes!
And if it is all too much information, just let it go! No news is good news!
S says: I, for one, think that there is reason enough to be alarmed. If you don’t know who to believe, well, we are just one step away from chaos. That is how you have mobs and riots.
R says: I think those were common in the old days too. Only they would call them ‘lynch mobs with pitchforks’.
S says: My point is, you need a trusted source. A voice of reason, unblemished and pure. I have an idea – I think robots are the answer. Someone who can never be biased and untruthful.
R says: Except for the people who program them, I would think.
S says: True. There is no escape from the lies. We are doomed.

Does Ranbir Kapoor expressing his preferences about Alia using lipstick really make him a toxic husband?
Sometime back, a video of Alia Bhatt with Vogue went viral where she shares her go-to make-up routine and her unique way to apply lipstick. It went viral not for the quirkiness but because she said that after applying the lipstick, she “rubs it off” because her then boyfriend and now husband – Ranbir Kapoor likes her natural lip colour and asks her to “wipe it off”, whenever they are out on a date night.
Netizens had gone crazy over this video, calling RK toxic and not respecting AB’s choice to wear makeup. I saw the video a couple of times to understand the reason behind the uproar but I failed to understand it. I read many comments and saw people saying that asking your partner or dictating terms on how they should wear makeup is a major sign to leave the person.
Really?!
Modesty or humility is viewed as the hallmark of a well-brought-up girl, which makes it hard for us to be open to any real compliments without feeling like an imposter.
Why is accepting that compliment so hard?
Colleagues: Have you lost weight? You look good! She (who has spent months doing Keto and weights): It’s the dress that’s making me look thinner!
Guests: Your house is so beautiful and neat! She (who spent the last five hours mopping and polishing): It could be tidier; there is just so much dust.
