On the importance of developing your personal style before going on that shopping spree for not all clothes look good on everyone!
Nothing like a well put together outfit to make you feel good about your day.
A lot of times fashion is overstated. For many, fashion is associated with brands and good looks. But the reality is that neither matter if you know how to pull off a look.
Most people seldom realise that their look from the outside depends on how they feel from within. If you are comfortable in your skin then what you wear will project self acceptance and inner confidence, else you will feel like a fish out of water.
Most people spend time and money on makeup and clothing but still aren’t satisfied with the outcome.
My teenage years were spent trying to pull off a gothic tomboyish look, I dressed myself up in anti-fit jeans, tight tops that sat just above the belt line, black nail polish and used a thick coal pencil to highlight my already very large eyes.
While my best friend pulled off the same look with style, it made me look sleazy.
As I grew into my twenties, I realised that elegance was a better fit to my personality. A casual shirt with khaki trousers or slim fit denims, and a tote with just a touch of kajal and lip gloss did the trick. I was finally who I was meant to be.
First decide who you are and then fill your shopping cart.
Also decide what best fits your personality and body type. Once your sense of style is ascertained, you will find that your eyes fall on clothes that define you almost instantly, and you don’t have to spend too much of time sifting through piles, racks or pages of clothing.
Try it out, it might just work for you!

UP Boards Topper Prachi Nigam was trolled on social media for her facial hair; our obsession with appearance is harsh on young minds.
Prachi Nigam’s photo has been doing the rounds on social media for the right reasons. Well, scratch that- I wish the above statement were true. This 15-year-old girl should ideally be revelling in her spectacular achievement of scoring a whopping 98.05% and topping her tenth-grade boards. But oddly enough, along with her marks, it’s something else that garners more attention – her facial hair.
While the trolls are driving themselves giddy by mocking this girl who hasn’t even completed her school yet, the ones who are taking her side are going one step ahead – they are sharing her photoshopped pictures, sans the facial hair, looking nothing less than a celebrity with captions saying – “Prachi Nigam, ten years later”.
Doctors have already diagnosed her with PCOD in their comments, based on photographic evidence. While we have names for people shamed for their weight – body shaming, for their skin colour- racism, for their age- age shaming, for being a female- sexism, this category of shaming where one faces criticism for their appearance has no name. With that, it also has zero shame attached to it.
