Reshma Qureshi was all of 17 when her brother-in-law attacked her with acid. Two years on, Reshma is now a beauty vlogger as well as a part of the NGO, Make Love Not Scars where she is an active participant of their #EndAcidSale campaign in India.
If you are inspired by Reshma’s brave and inspiring story so far, then prepare to be dazzled even further! Come September, and Reshma will be walking the ramp at the globally acclaimed New York Fashion Week.
New York based fashion house, FTL Moda has invited Reshma for the show. According to Ilaria Niccolini, the producer at FTL Moda:
“It has been a journey of discovery that led us to Make Love Not Scars, the most recognized entity supporting survivors of acid attacks in India. We want to give voice to these amazing women, who have been silently suffering, hiding, and too often depriving themselves of the opportunity to declare how beastly, and cruelly they have been attacked.
FTL MODA and Global Disability Inclusion are activating a powerful movement called#TakeBeautyBack, in partnership with Fashion Week Online, to make all diverse models, feel beautiful and included in fashion and entertainment. We are working to create a world where acids used in these attacks are unavailable to the public.
We are receiving incredible support from many celebrities, models and professional organizations in the fashion and entertainment industries, thanks to whom our September appointments will hopefully contribute to ending this inhumane practice, and creating greater acceptance of all diversity”.
Please watch this heartwarming video to see how Reshma reacted to the news of being invited to the New York Fashion Week to be held this September.
We dare you not to cry.

UP Boards Topper Prachi Nigam was trolled on social media for her facial hair; our obsession with appearance is harsh on young minds.
Prachi Nigam’s photo has been doing the rounds on social media for the right reasons. Well, scratch that- I wish the above statement were true. This 15-year-old girl should ideally be revelling in her spectacular achievement of scoring a whopping 98.05% and topping her tenth-grade boards. But oddly enough, along with her marks, it’s something else that garners more attention – her facial hair.
While the trolls are driving themselves giddy by mocking this girl who hasn’t even completed her school yet, the ones who are taking her side are going one step ahead – they are sharing her photoshopped pictures, sans the facial hair, looking nothing less than a celebrity with captions saying – “Prachi Nigam, ten years later”.
Doctors have already diagnosed her with PCOD in their comments, based on photographic evidence. While we have names for people shamed for their weight – body shaming, for their skin colour- racism, for their age- age shaming, for being a female- sexism, this category of shaming where one faces criticism for their appearance has no name. With that, it also has zero shame attached to it.
