According to recent news, Kareena Kapoor is pregnant. It’s great to see that motherhood need not be a limiting factor for female actors anymore.
Kareen Kapoor Khan’s pregnancy is a happy news. However, what has increased our happiness even further is the fact that at least some people in Bollywood are acting as true professionals about it. Instead of replacing her in the forthcoming movie, Veere di Wedding, the makers of the film had actually thought of changing the story line to incorporate Kareena’s pregnancy.
In an industry where actresses are often forgotten after they get married, whereas middle-aged actors can still romance actresses old enough to be their daughters, this is indeed a refreshing change! The movie’s producer Rhea Kapoor had posted this on Instagram after speculations were rife whether Kareena will be replaced post her pregnancy news:

If we look at Hollywood, married or older actresses are not shunned from the industry the way it happens in Bollywood. Not only do those actresses remain in demand, there are also scripts that are written specifically keeping their age in mind. Though things are slowly changing in Bollywood, we still have a long way to go. The hero’s age or marital status had never had any impact on their fame in Bollywood. In fact, two of the three leading Khans are married with kids.
However, if we look at great actresses such as Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit, Karishma Kapoor, Rani Mukherjee and so on, their acting careers either slowed down or stopped entirely post marriage. If it is a person’s choice to not work after marriage, then that is fine. However, if they’re forced to give up on their careers because of a change in marital status or due to motherhood then that seems unfair given their male counterparts would never be impacted by these life decisions. Kareena had always been vocal about not compromising on her career post marriage and it is a welcome change to see her filmmakers supporting her in this decision. In 2016, she had two releases, Ki and Ka and Udta Punjab.
According to reports, Kareena will shoot a part of Veere di Wedding till October and then go on a break. Her delivery is due in December post which she’ll take a three months break before resuming the shooting for the movie.
Veere Di Wedding is about the modern Indian women and along with Kareena it also stars Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhaskar, and Shikha Talsania. Kudos to the filmmakers for attempting to make Bollywood a level playing ground for women. Here’s wishing that more people in the industry take a cue from this progressive trend and it becomes more common with time.

UP Boards Topper Prachi Nigam was trolled on social media for her facial hair; our obsession with appearance is harsh on young minds.
Prachi Nigam’s photo has been doing the rounds on social media for the right reasons. Well, scratch that- I wish the above statement were true. This 15-year-old girl should ideally be revelling in her spectacular achievement of scoring a whopping 98.05% and topping her tenth-grade boards. But oddly enough, along with her marks, it’s something else that garners more attention – her facial hair.
While the trolls are driving themselves giddy by mocking this girl who hasn’t even completed her school yet, the ones who are taking her side are going one step ahead – they are sharing her photoshopped pictures, sans the facial hair, looking nothing less than a celebrity with captions saying – “Prachi Nigam, ten years later”.
Doctors have already diagnosed her with PCOD in their comments, based on photographic evidence. While we have names for people shamed for their weight – body shaming, for their skin colour- racism, for their age- age shaming, for being a female- sexism, this category of shaming where one faces criticism for their appearance has no name. With that, it also has zero shame attached to it.
