A trip with old school friends is always fun and gives wonderful memories. The author is glad that she took one such trip with friends.
I joined an intermediate college near my home after I finished school. On my first day, I saw a shy girl in our classroom. I soon recognized that she was one of my neighbours. She was chit-chatting with her cousin in the class room. I went to her and introduced myself. Little did I know that we were going to be best friends forever.
Three of us are settled in different countries now. We have a whatsapp group of three members. One of the friends who is settled in US informed us that she was going to visit India along with her mom. My other friend also planned to visit India around the same time. Three of us decided to plan a trip. We shortlisted a few places and finally selected Goa.
After six months, both of them visited India. Three of us met at my friend’s place and planned for our tour. Since I had visited Goa many times, I took the responsibility of booking tickets and making other arrangements. I booked a package tour. Finally, the day came. We all met at one place and reached airport in the same car.
After reaching Goa, our tour operator came to receive us at the airport and drove us to the hotel. We booked a beach resort. We were very happy with the ambience. Beaches were neat and uncrowded. We enjoyed the spectacular view of the beach. Next two days we went for day time city tour. There we visited churches, beaches and many other tourist spots. One of the major attractions was dolphin watching at Sequirium beach and visiting Fort Aquada. On the last day, we went for para gliding and banana ride. It was an out of the world experience for us.
We were in the resort for three days. Every evening we used to go to the beach side and walk till night. After dinner we used to come back to our room and talk till midnight. I can say that those days were one of the best days of my life. We were so happy. Going on a trip with friends is always pleasurable. Our pictures reflected happy faces and we took many pictures. Now, I am eagerly waiting for another tour.

UP Boards Topper Prachi Nigam was trolled on social media for her facial hair; our obsession with appearance is harsh on young minds.
Prachi Nigam’s photo has been doing the rounds on social media for the right reasons. Well, scratch that- I wish the above statement were true. This 15-year-old girl should ideally be revelling in her spectacular achievement of scoring a whopping 98.05% and topping her tenth-grade boards. But oddly enough, along with her marks, it’s something else that garners more attention – her facial hair.
While the trolls are driving themselves giddy by mocking this girl who hasn’t even completed her school yet, the ones who are taking her side are going one step ahead – they are sharing her photoshopped pictures, sans the facial hair, looking nothing less than a celebrity with captions saying – “Prachi Nigam, ten years later”.
Doctors have already diagnosed her with PCOD in their comments, based on photographic evidence. While we have names for people shamed for their weight – body shaming, for their skin colour- racism, for their age- age shaming, for being a female- sexism, this category of shaming where one faces criticism for their appearance has no name. With that, it also has zero shame attached to it.
