Posted: December 12, 2018

In this episode, Nikita Sengar of Women’s Web meets the”Queen of Indian Erotica” Sreemoyee Piu Kundu.

She is single, she is 41 and a hardcore feminist. Sreemoyee Piu Kundu is an author, journalist, and columnist. She has written books like Sita’s Curse, You’ve Got the wrong girl and much-acclaimed Status Single.

For the book Status Single, Sreemoyee has researched over 3000 single women in India. In this episode Sreemoyee talks about single women, dating and their sex life. She brings to us the reality of being a single women in India, the dating culture, self pleasure, women exploring their sexuality, etc. All of these have been a taboo in our society where mostly women are oppressed by patriarchy and women judge women all the time. The book – Status Single – is a result of the author’s interactions and interviews with more than 3000 women, and it attempts to address stereotypes and stigma around single women as it narrates the experiences and anecdotes of single women who’ve crossed the ‘marriageable age’ dictated by society, including the author herself.

She gives a few real life examples from these interviews. Sreemoyee speaks about the intrusive questions of her women friends on her being single, the broken relationship of her past and how it gave her more clarity to decide what she wants to do in a relationship. For one interesting question on women using Tinder, Sreemoyee says, it is alright even for a married woman to date, have a hookup or sex vacation if that’s what a woman wants, provided the person whom she engages with are at the same page!

She discusses the differences between dating in the twenties and forties and how Indian men love dating older women. The knee-jerk reaction that we give when a 35-year-old woman marries a 25-year-old man – like Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas! And same does not happen if a pot-bellied old man advertises for a 20-year-old so-called virginal ‘wife-material’. Sums up the episode with hot and spicy rapid-fire questions… Watch the full episode and discover talked or unexplored aspects of women’s lives.
