Dr Shalini Moorthy

I'm Dr Shalini Moorthy. I was born in Chennai, India. I moved to the United Kingdom during my childhood as a first generation immigrant with my parents. I finished my PhD in 2019 in Cancer Research and at present, working as a senior drug discovery scientist in the pharmaceutical industry. I have a passion for dancing as well as reading and writing about societal issues. I like to focus on two key areas. Firstly, women empowerment, which include breaking down patriarchy and promoting feminism. Secondly, mental health awareness, in particular, overcoming grief, fighting racism and bullying and how women of colour can succeed in life.

It was that time I realised I needed a positive distraction in my life. Someone to share my life with and eventually to […]

My happy grieving journey

Happy grieving? Sounds ironic? – Well, here are a few words of wisdom for anyone out there battling with grief. During the winter of 2021, my mother was diagnosed with Haemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), an extremely rare and cruel autoimmune condition. What started as a simple fever, escalated to multiple organ failure within 7 days. She […]
