Noida woman, identified as Shefali Kaul, a resident of Cleo County Society, has been caught on CCTV camera for assaulting her house-help, 20-year-old Anita.
A CCTV footage has gone viral showing a heinous sight of a Noida woman mercilessly dragging her help out of a building lift. The woman, identified as Shefali Kaul, a resident of Cleo County Society in Noida, can be seen assaulting her help, 20-year-old Anita.
Shefali went missing right after the CCTV footage surfaced and while a search had been launched to track her, police now say that she has been arrested.
A case has been filed against her under relevant sections of the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes Act. Shefali claims that she is innocent and has denied the allegations so far.
Anita, who has since undergone a medical check-up, showed clear signs of assault. She claimed that Shefali beat her up regularly and forced her to stay back and work when she wanted to leave.
Recounting the incident recorded by the CCTV, Anita said that she was being beaten with slippers as she had eaten a bar of jaggery and Kaul threatened to set her on fire and throw her down the roof, compelling her to try and escape.
Anita’s father stated that his daughter had a six-month contract to work for the Kauls which ended on October 31. However, even after the contract ended, his daughter was being held hostage in the house and was assaulted regularly by Kaul. She wanted to leave, but couldn’t.
This is an unfortunate example of discriminatory violence, perpetrated by a woman, more so. While we are not aware of the precise details of why Kaul took such extreme measures to control Anita, it is evident that her behaviour is underlined by hatred and a lack of empathy.
It is important to not only be kind to each person around us, and also to be vigilant to violence taking place around us and to report it at the quickest.
This is an ongoing story, with further information, we will keep updating the facts and progress of the case.

UP Boards Topper Prachi Nigam was trolled on social media for her facial hair; our obsession with appearance is harsh on young minds.
Prachi Nigam’s photo has been doing the rounds on social media for the right reasons. Well, scratch that- I wish the above statement were true. This 15-year-old girl should ideally be revelling in her spectacular achievement of scoring a whopping 98.05% and topping her tenth-grade boards. But oddly enough, along with her marks, it’s something else that garners more attention – her facial hair.
While the trolls are driving themselves giddy by mocking this girl who hasn’t even completed her school yet, the ones who are taking her side are going one step ahead – they are sharing her photoshopped pictures, sans the facial hair, looking nothing less than a celebrity with captions saying – “Prachi Nigam, ten years later”.
Doctors have already diagnosed her with PCOD in their comments, based on photographic evidence. While we have names for people shamed for their weight – body shaming, for their skin colour- racism, for their age- age shaming, for being a female- sexism, this category of shaming where one faces criticism for their appearance has no name. With that, it also has zero shame attached to it.
