The author narrates the story of a woman who showed immense grit and courage when things fell apart and turned her life around.
It was the chilly winter season! My son got up late and missed his school bus. I drove my son to the school. While I was on my way back home, I met one of my friends Sneha in the parking lot. We were neighbors in our childhood days. I had a brief conversation with her. I learnt from the conversation that she is a Vice-President of a big MNC and blessed with two kids. I was really very happy to meet her after a long time.
I wondered how life is a journey of twists and turns. Sneha was the eldest daughter in her family. She had two younger sisters. They were leading a happy life. When Sneha was studying in class X, her father was fired from his job on corruption charges. He could not take the corruption charges levelled against him and soon became an alcoholic. Her mother was an illiterate woman and a home maker who could not do much to save her family. They ended up having staggering amounts of debts. They had no money even to pay for their children’s school fees. All the relatives started avoiding them. They had no one to help them bring out of the crisis. All of a sudden their world turned upside down.
However, Sneha didn’t lose her courage and will power. She took a part time job as a sales girl in a super market. She completed her class X and continued her education while working. She helped her siblings complete their education. Her sister also started working as a part time sales girl in a super market. Both of them worked extra hard to make ends meet.
After a few years of hard work and struggle, they landed good jobs. And finally bought the house which they had sold when their father went bankrupt.
Life is unpredictable. It always comes with many twists and turns, but how we take and handle it makes the difference. Sneha showed great courage during her family’s worst phase and came through with flying colors.

UP Boards Topper Prachi Nigam was trolled on social media for her facial hair; our obsession with appearance is harsh on young minds.
Prachi Nigam’s photo has been doing the rounds on social media for the right reasons. Well, scratch that- I wish the above statement were true. This 15-year-old girl should ideally be revelling in her spectacular achievement of scoring a whopping 98.05% and topping her tenth-grade boards. But oddly enough, along with her marks, it’s something else that garners more attention – her facial hair.
While the trolls are driving themselves giddy by mocking this girl who hasn’t even completed her school yet, the ones who are taking her side are going one step ahead – they are sharing her photoshopped pictures, sans the facial hair, looking nothing less than a celebrity with captions saying – “Prachi Nigam, ten years later”.
Doctors have already diagnosed her with PCOD in their comments, based on photographic evidence. While we have names for people shamed for their weight – body shaming, for their skin colour- racism, for their age- age shaming, for being a female- sexism, this category of shaming where one faces criticism for their appearance has no name. With that, it also has zero shame attached to it.
