This Mother’s Day was very different and special for some mothers and children across the country. Find out how!
These loving mothers chose to spend this special day not with their own kids or mothers but in an orphanage. An initiative to spread some happiness in the lives of orphaned children across India in five different cities was welcomed and appreciated by all.
True to their name, Mother’s Recipe created the perfect recipe to make it a memorable Mother’s Day for both the children and some very remarkable mothers who joined hands and hearts with this initiative. Mother’s Recipe decided to add some joy and love to the lives of 500 children, who have never felt the love of a mother. It was a Mother’s Day event, #MothersLove being held across the country and multiple orphanages, where mothers spread their love amongst children who have never known a mother.
The natural state of motherhood is unselfishness. When you become a mother, you are no longer the center of your own universe. You relinquish that position to your children. – Jessica Lange
The above quote both simplifies and highlights what is the crux of a mother’s love. Indeed, a mother’s world revolves around her child and this is what motivated the women across India to spend a fun filled day with children who have not known their mothers. Yet, it is our mothering instinct that comes to fore when over 400 mothers volunteer, support and participate in this initiative by Mother’s Recipie.
As mothers we cocoon our little ones and feel secure within our own little world. Yet, in this very world are children who do not have the familiar comfort and unconditional love of a mother – orphaned or abandoned children. We rarely have space in our lives to think about the hundreds of such children in India, but these mothers’ decided to join hands to spread love and happiness.
Janaki, one of the mothers who participated, mentions, “I enjoy interacting with kids and this was a good opportunity to share my love with the NGO children. It was a delight to watch the kids perform and interact with them. The whole event was very well organized and I had a wonderful experience from myself.”
Renuka, another participant mom adds, “It was a good event by Mother’s Recipe and a wonderful experience for me. The highlight was the interaction with the children.”
The women joined in with the kids playing games, dancing, activities and sharing food and cooking for the kids making it a fun filled, emotional day for everyone. Pretty, heartfelt cards were made by the children for the moms as they helped each other with stickers and coloring. Smiles and laughter echoed as the day unfolded.
It was a touching moment when moms fed the kids after making food for them. These simple gestures reflect on the big hearts mothers possess, with this wish to share and express their love and commitment for the kids. Many have promised to be back to continue to be a part of the kids’ lives.
As the reactions of moms show, it was not so much a treat for the children, as a rewarding, joyful day for participating mothers.
Each day we look for ways to make this world a better place, sharing our love, understanding and supporting these children is the best way to make a difference.
*Mothers who were unable to join in on Mother’s Day can still be part of this special initiative. All you have to do is leave a message or short video for the children and Mother’s Recipe will show it to them. You can post these messages on the Mother’s Recipe Facebook page with the hashtag #MothersLove

Neena was the sole caregiver of Amma and though one would think that Amma was dependent on her, Neena felt otherwise.
Neena inhaled the aroma that emanated from the pan and took a deep breath. The aroma of cumin interspersed with butter transported her back to the modest kitchen in her native village. She could picture her father standing in the kitchen wearing his white crisp kurta as he made delectable concoctions for his only daughter.
Neena grew up in a home where both her parents worked together in tandem to keep the house up and running. She had a blissful childhood in her modest two-room house. The house was small but every nook and cranny gave her memories of a lifetime. Neena’s young heart imagined that her life would follow the same cheerful course. But how wrong she was!
When she was sixteen, the catastrophic clutches of destiny snatched away her parents. They passed away in a road accident and Neena was devastated. Relatives thronged her now gloomy house and soon it was decided that she should be married off.
Menopause is a reality in women's lives, so Indian workplaces need to gear up and address women's menopausal needs.
Picture this: A seasoned executive at the peak of her career suddenly grapples with hot flashes and sleep disturbances during important meetings. She also battles mood swings and cognitive changes, affecting her productivity and confidence. Eventually, she resigns from her job.
Fiction? Not really. The scenario above is a reality many women face as they navigate menopause while meeting their work responsibilities.
Menopause is the time when a woman stops menstruating. This natural condition marks the end of a woman’s reproductive years. The transition brings unique physical, emotional, and psychological changes for women.
