Shiny Wilson is an amazing athlete who never failed to set the track ablaze with her speed and determination.
Born in 1965 in Kerala, Shiny Wilson has been a national champion for a long time. She has represented India in several international venues including 4 Olympic Games and 3 Asian Games. She also has the distinction of being the first Indian woman flag bearer at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992.
Shiny Wilson has won several medals for India; some even after marriage and motherhood. She was adjudged as the best woman athlete at the SAF games in Chennai in 1995. Known for her honesty and hard work, Shiny Wilson is regarded as one of the top athletes in Asia. She was awarded the Arjuna Award in 1985, Birla Award in 1996 and the Padma Shri in 1998.
Why we find her inspiring:
– For her strength and dedication in achieving her goals
– For standing up and accepting her mistake when she committed an error in a major track event
– For making the world sit up and take notice of Indian women athletes
– For making her motherland proud with her achievements
