Check out 16 Return-To-Work Programs In India For Ambitious Women Like You!
Childhood is a time of dreams, of shared secrets, of the impossible being possible. Enter the Women’s Web ‘Secret World’ Children’s Day Contest.
Remember a time when playing Chinese whispers could send the entire class rolling with laughter? When you had your own language to guard against the watchful ears of adults? Today, on 14th November, Children’s Day, we’re kicking off our latest contest that celebrates this magical time. Let’s celebrate the child in each one of us!
What do I need to do? Couldn’t be simpler! Give us a 1 line phrase or caption or dialogue (or any sort of line really!) that you think goes well with this image below. Place your entry as a comment here.
Rules
– 1 line only. Your line can be short or long, but using commonsense rules, it must qualify as a single line. (In other words, writing a paragraph using ten phrases separated by semi-colons won’t work!)
– Your entry must be dated between 14th and 21st Nov, 2010
– One entry per person
THE PRIZES
Aha – the goodies! For the two best captions, we have a fantastic prize indeed! We’ll be giving each winner* a copy of Calvin & Hobbes: Yukon Ho!, that classic of childhood adventure by Bill Patterson dealing with Superhero Calvin and sidekick Hobbes, perhaps the best-loved imaginary animal that ever existed.
We hope you’re going to come up with a better line than that – so get started!
Remember – contest ends on 21st Nov, 10.00 p.m IST, so get your entry in now….
(* While anyone around the world can participate in the contest, at the moment, we’re unable to ship prizes outside India. Prizes can only be sent to a valid address in India)
UPDATE: A BIG Thank you to all who participated! We have our winners – Commentor #12 Ritika and #13 rpreethikrishnan for their comments that totally captured the essence of the photograph! Congrats, winners – your Calvin & Hobbes book will reach you soon!

UP Boards Topper Prachi Nigam was trolled on social media for her facial hair; our obsession with appearance is harsh on young minds.
Prachi Nigam’s photo has been doing the rounds on social media for the right reasons. Well, scratch that- I wish the above statement were true. This 15-year-old girl should ideally be revelling in her spectacular achievement of scoring a whopping 98.05% and topping her tenth-grade boards. But oddly enough, along with her marks, it’s something else that garners more attention – her facial hair.
While the trolls are driving themselves giddy by mocking this girl who hasn’t even completed her school yet, the ones who are taking her side are going one step ahead – they are sharing her photoshopped pictures, sans the facial hair, looking nothing less than a celebrity with captions saying – “Prachi Nigam, ten years later”.
Doctors have already diagnosed her with PCOD in their comments, based on photographic evidence. While we have names for people shamed for their weight – body shaming, for their skin colour- racism, for their age- age shaming, for being a female- sexism, this category of shaming where one faces criticism for their appearance has no name. With that, it also has zero shame attached to it.
