“Tomorrow is the first blank page of a 365 page book. Write a good one.” – Brad Paisley
Yes! You are the author of this book and you can write as you wish, but remember that this is your book; you will need to read it again sometime and therefore make sure it is a good one.
“Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.” – Carl Bard
All of us have regrets. Who doesn’t? Having said that, you cannot undo what you have done, but you can certainly start now and make sure to not make the same mistakes again.
“Don’t change because a new year is coming, but change for your personal growth. No matter what resolutions you make, they start with you.” – Unknown
Absolutely true! You don’t have to wait for the new year to make resolutions. Every day is a new beginning and every little change towards your personal growth is a step in the right direction.
“If you flee from the things you fear, there’s no resolution.” – Chuck Palahnuik
Fear is one’s worst enemy. How often have we shied away from making changes in our life, such as getting out of a bad marriage or standing up for what we think is right? Take the next step and make a difference in your life or in someone else’s life.
“Let all the failures of your past year be the best guide in the new year.” – Mehmet Murat Ildan
Someone once said “Failure is a stepping stone to success”. There is no better teacher than failures. Instead of wallowing in your failures, rise above them, learn from them and let them guide you in the new year.
“Just try new things. Don’t be afraid. Step out of your comfort zones and soar, all right?”
With some time available at the beginning of the new year, when everyone tends to be relaxed, is the best time to examine if you are getting far too deep into that comfort zone.
“A dream written down with a date becomes a goal. A goal broken down into steps becomes a plan. A plan backed by action makes your dream come true.” – Greg S. Reid
Yes, It is a no-brain-er. A dream is great, but it is not enough if you need to achieve something. You need to convert your dream to specific goals with specific dates and have a plan and act on those goals. This one is a gem and one of my favorites.
“Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.” – Dalai Lama
Our world is not monolithic but very diverse and a beautiful place. Travel to a new place you have never been before. Experience different cultures and in the process, learn about yourself. Be more tolerant, more forgiving, and accept others as they are.
“One resolution I have made, and try always to keep, is this — To rise above the little things.” – John Burroughs
You may not be on talking terms with your sister because of something that happened a while back which you don’t even remember clearly. Even if you do remember, do not be bogged down about the little things that hold you back personally or professionally. You need to just let them go. They are not worth your time and sometimes not worth losing your precious relationships either.
“Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
I used to meet this person in the elevator every morning at work in my previous job. He always greeted everyone in the elevator with a huge smile. “How do you manage to be so upbeat every single day?”, I asked him one day. What he said next, remained with me forever. “I consider every single day as the best day of my life and there is no if’s or but’s about it”, he said with his trademark smile. His positive attitude was infectious and it rubbed on all of us who, he greeted in the elevator. I am sure we were all a bit more optimistic than we were before we entered the elevator and that is exactly the power of positive thinking!
“The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot.” – Michael Altshuler
You are the only person that can control your life and your destiny. So make it count.
I hope you enjoyed these beautifully positive new year quotes. Finally, here is wishing all of you a happy and a healthy new year!

People say that women are the greatest enemies of women. I vehemently disagree. It is the patriarchal mindset that makes women believe in the wrong ideology.
The entire world celebrates International Women’s Day on March 8, 2024. It should be a joyful day, but unfortunately, not all women are entitled to this privilege, as violence against women is at its peak. The experience of oppression pushes many women to choose freedom. As far as patriotism is concerned, feminism is not a cup of tea in this society.
What happens when a woman decides to stand up for herself? Does this world easily accept the decisions of women in this society? What inspires them to be free of the clutches of the oppression that women have faced for ages? Most of the time, women do not get the chance to decide for themselves. Their lives are always at the mercy of someone, which can be their parents, siblings, husband, or children.
In some cases, women do not feel the need to make any decisions. They are taught to obey the patriarchal system, which makes them believe that they are right. In my family, I was never taught to make decisions on my own. It was always my parents who bought dresses and all that I needed.
14 years after her last feature film Dhobi Ghat, storyteller extraordinaire comes up with her new film, Laapataa Ladies, a must watch.
*Some spoilers alert*
Every religion around the world dictates terms to women. The onus is always on women to be ‘modest’ and cover their faces and bodies so men can’t be “tempted”, rather than on men to keep their eyes where they belong and behave like civilized beings. So much so that even rape has been excused on the grounds of women eating chowmein or ‘men will be men’. I think the best Hindi movie retort to this unwanted advice on ‘akeli ladki khuli tijori ki tarah hoti hai’ (an alone woman is like an open jewellery box) came from Geet in Jab We Met – Kya aap gyan dene ke paise lete hain kyonki chillar nahin hain mere paas.
The premise of Laapataa Ladies is beautifully simple – two brides clad in the ghunghat that covers their identity get mixed up on a train. Within this Russian Doll, you get a comedy of errors, a story of getting lost, a commentary on patriarchy’s attitude towards women, a mystery, and a tale of finding oneself, all in one. Done with a mostly light touch that has you laughing and nodding along.
