My dad is a cancer survivor. Not just the person, the entire family forgets how to smile. Then I come across Sonali Bendre’s video - it's Sunshine!
My dad is a cancer survivor. I have seen closely what cancer does to a person. Not just the person, the entire family forgets how to smile. Then I come across Sonali Bendre’s video where she puts on a bright smile on her face as she chops off her lovely hair.
For a moment, I could feel exactly what she is going through. It is tough.
It is extremely difficult for a cancer patient to stay positive – wearing a smile often feels out of the question. The moment a person is diagnosed with this deadly disease, the world comes crumbling down. It hits you emotionally and you stop living. It is the most devastating phase and you know there are harder times ahead.
To smile under such circumstances proves how mentally strong you are. Sonali Bendre’s sunshine smile is highly inspiring and will give strength to many patients and their families. She knows there’s a long battle ahead and she chooses to fight it with a smile.
Nobody is ever prepared for such a news, it always comes as a shock. It teaches us how uncertain and unpredictable life is. People who are lucky enough to survive, come out with a whole new positivity. Their attitude towards life changes forever. If you ever get a chance, speak to a cancer survivor and you will realize how beautiful life is.
You will stop cribbing about trivial issues and start looking at the bigger picture. You will enjoy each day of your life. You will find happiness in things which go unnoticed.
It is easy to speak about it but is unimaginably difficult for a person who is going through this tough time. Only a few people are resilient enough to realize this truth and accept it. Such people should definitely share their stories with others and it will spread like magic, exactly how Sonali Bendre is sharing. We know it’s tough but she is tougher.
Her video will help many to regain that faith and strength that they have lost. I wish I had met somebody so inspiring when we as a family were battling cancer.
In the words of my favourite author Isabel Allende, “We don’t even know how strong we are until we are forced to bring that hidden strength forward. In times of tragedy, of war, of necessity, people do amazing things. The human capacity for survival and renewal is awesome.” The outpouring of love I’ve received in the last few days has been so overwhelming… and I’m especially grateful to those of you who shared stories of your experiences in dealing with cancer, whether it was your own or of loved ones. Your stories have given me an extra dosage of strength and courage, and more importantly, the knowledge that I’m not alone. Each day comes with its own challenges and victories and so for now, I’m taking this #OneDayAtATime. The only thing I’m trying to be consistent about is maintaining a positive outlook… literally #SwitchOnTheSunshine – it’s my way of dealing with this. Sharing my journey is also part of this process… I can only hope it reminds you that all is not lost and that someone, somewhere understands what you’re going through. 🤞🌞 Thank you @tomoarakawa for making this a chic transition from long to short! Alia Bhatt is pregnant and happy about it - it's not our job to accuse her of 'trapping' her partner into marriage or shaming her for the timing of it.
When Alia Bhatt announced that she and her partner, Ranbir Kapoor, were expecting a baby, all I could feel was joy. As a person who has been in awe of Bhatt’s acting skills and dedication, this news genuinely made my day.
However, the joy was soon replaced by anger and frustration when I read the first few comments (from certain unverified Instagram handles) on her pregnancy post. Here are the exact words of those who felt it was okay to question a woman’s choice:
“Baby k liye saadi kiye ho ya saadi k liye baby?” (Did you get married because of this baby or did you get married to make babies?)
I was so engrossed in looking after my daughter, being both a mom and dad for her, that I myself no longer existed...
Being a single mother, my world revolves around my daughter.
Whatever people may say, the bond that exists between us is very different from a regular mother-daughter relationship. Navya, my daughter is the reason I am alive today.
This statement may sound cliched, but that is the biggest truth of my life. She is the reason I stopped myself from jumping off a local train years ago. The fact that she was growing inside me, that tiny speck of tissue in my uterus, had the strength to twine around my legs and hold me inside the train.
