Megan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex helps women affected by the Grenfell tower fire tragedy to raise more funds. Here is what she did for her first charity project.
The Brit Royals have always been associated with many non-profits and causes in the last few decades. Recently wed to prince Harry at the royal wedding that sparked interest everywhere, Actor Megan Markle is all set to perform her duties as the Duchess of Sussex.
Cooking has always fascinated Megan Markle, even during her days as an actress she used to post food recipes on her social media platform. So, its not very hard for someone to guess what her first charity project as the Duchess of Sussex is going to be. Yes, it’s indeed related to cooking, and it is a cookbook called ‘Together’.
Together is a community cookbook comprising of about 50 recipes from the women of the Hubb kitchen. Hubb kitchen is that place where women from different nationality, who lost their homes in the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy in January 2018, come together to bond as a community through cooking and try forgetting their sorrows. Megan along with the other women of the Hubb Kitchen feel that cooking has the power to bring people together. By cooking together and sharing the dining space, women and their families here laugh, grieve, cry and enjoy together.
Megan Markle being the foodie of the royal family, wanted to help in keeping the Hubb Kitchen running for all the 7 days of the week, rather than just 2 days, as it is being done now. So, to fund its running without any financial hindrance she came up with the idea of publishing a cookbook and using the revenues for the kitchen.
In spite of hailing from different ethnical backgrounds, under the shared roof of the Hubb kitchen, the women work as a family. Hubb in Arabic means love. So, their love for cooking and feeding people is helping them transform their lives and their communities through bonding and togetherness even in the toughest of times. The beauty of diversity and inclusiveness that exists in the Hubb kitchen is what interested Megan. She wanted to help these women and spread the message of cooperation and co-existence for a better living.
Being published by Penguin Random House, Megan’s efforts with Together is being encouraged by many of her friends on social media. One among them is the tennis star Serena Williams. Her shoutout goes like this:
The news about Megan Markle’s first solo charity project was officially announced on Kensington Palace’s instagram and twitter accounts with a photo and video of Duchess of Sussex cooking and eating together with the ladies of the Hubb Kitchen.

As parents, we put a piece of our hearts out into this world and into the custody of the teachers at school and tuition and can only hope and pray that they treat them well.

When I was in Grade 10, I flunked my first preliminary examination in Mathematics. My mother was in a panic. An aunt recommended the Maths classes conducted by the Maths sir she knew personally. It was a much sought-after class, one of those classes that you signed up for when you were in the ninth grade itself back then, all those decades ago. My aunt kindly requested him to take me on in the middle of the term, despite my marks in the subject, and he did so as a favour.
Math had always been a nightmare. In retrospect, I wonder why I was always so terrified of math. I’ve concluded it is because I am a head in the cloud person and the rigor of the step by step process in math made me lose track of what needed to be done before I was halfway through. In today’s world, I would have most probably been diagnosed as attention deficit. Back then we had no such definitions, no such categorisations. Back then we were just bright sparks or dim.

For me, it’s not about Deepika’s bikini colour or was-it-needed skin show. It’s about meaningful content that I find is missing big time. Not just this movie, but a spate of cringe-worthy narratives passed off as ‘movies’ in the recent past. I feel insulted, and not because I am a devoutly religious person or a hardcore feminist, but because I feel the content insults my intelligence.
But before everything else, I am a 90s kid who in the case of movies (and maybe more) is stuck in time as it wrapped around me then and the gamut has too hard an exterior for me to crack it open!
