The first thing I did after I got married was to get home two naughty puppies. I learnt to feed them, clean up after them and worry when they were sick. My life changed, almost overnight. I now had two friends who were always there for me, wagging their tails each time I came home!
I admit, the glitz and glamour attract me. Pictures of hot models, slick hairstyles—ah!I see all that and enter, feeling totally good about myself, my “beautification” guaranteed, after all, I had just forgotten my vow to myself, that of never entering a beauty parlour ever again!
We have all been through that panic when we expect guests over. We fret over little things: the dust under the sofa, the dog hair or the pile of unfolded clothes on the bed. Yet, do we remember any of these things when we visit those we love.
Sometimes, I also process uncomfortable thoughts somewhere in between and scrub a little more than necessary. The physical act of scrubbing brings me peace. Finally, everything is clean and I am more at peace.
