Worried about what to cook for a home cricket party? These simple ideas will come in handy!
With the Indian team out of the T20 world cup, there was dullness all around. For cricket lovers, though, there is a good reason to look forward to and rejoice yet again in the weeks that come.
With the IPL (Indian Premiere League) that kickstarts from this weekend, there will be a two-months-long cricket madness all over again. The best part is that it happens during the summer break and calls for a cricket get together with friends and family.
The other day I got a message from one of the vendors listing themselves as a planner for a cricket party at home. One can imagine the craze now! Of course I have been with cricket crazy people all my life – both my dad and husband are cricket fans and I completely understand the frenzy and buzz around it.
With the introduction of HD (High Definition) channels, wide & flat screen LED televisions, speakers surrounding etc, watching cricket has never been so much fun! A better viewing experience naturally draws more crowd and watching it with friends and family is something not to be missed.
While this part sounds fun, there are other things to be taken care of, mainly the food. Even if you are hosting a party, you do not want to sweat it out in the kitchen while others are enjoying the raining sixes on TV! Apart from the basic popcorn or chips, you might need to cook up some party food too. Let us see some cool options now!
The temperatures are rising by each day and going to be at a peak when your favorite team loses a wicket too! Hence you need some drinks to get it going for your guests.
Try this summer cooler with kiwi, tender coconut water, mint, khus syrup etc – all important ingredients to keep them cool. You can get the khus syrup readily available in super markets or ayurvedic shops.
Pakoras and bajjis are an all time favorites in Indian homes as tea time snacks and starter recipes. The simplest of them being onion pakoras – you can make loads of them and the bowl will still be emptied in no time! The magic of time tested recipes, you see!
Now to keep the main course simple, self-serving and non-messy, go for healthy veg wraps/rolls or sandwiches. Wraps are also an easy way to make use of left over vegetables and still make a fancy meal. You can make it sumptuous by adding some paneer or extra cheese to make it kid friendly too!
This is again a basic dessert that seldom fails! Bake your cake a day before the match and keep it ready. If your team wins, everyone will cut it, put it on faces and eat the remaining part before you can get a spoon. In case your team looses, you can take your time and serve it along with an icecream in your precious glass bowls and it will still be finished!
At the end of the day, as a hostess, make sure you don’t miss out on all the action and enjoy the match equally with your friends. The trick lies in planning things a day ahead and save your energies to cheer for the IPL team that you love!

UP Boards Topper Prachi Nigam was trolled on social media for her facial hair; our obsession with appearance is harsh on young minds.
Prachi Nigam’s photo has been doing the rounds on social media for the right reasons. Well, scratch that- I wish the above statement were true. This 15-year-old girl should ideally be revelling in her spectacular achievement of scoring a whopping 98.05% and topping her tenth-grade boards. But oddly enough, along with her marks, it’s something else that garners more attention – her facial hair.
While the trolls are driving themselves giddy by mocking this girl who hasn’t even completed her school yet, the ones who are taking her side are going one step ahead – they are sharing her photoshopped pictures, sans the facial hair, looking nothing less than a celebrity with captions saying – “Prachi Nigam, ten years later”.
Doctors have already diagnosed her with PCOD in their comments, based on photographic evidence. While we have names for people shamed for their weight – body shaming, for their skin colour- racism, for their age- age shaming, for being a female- sexism, this category of shaming where one faces criticism for their appearance has no name. With that, it also has zero shame attached to it.
