Got that dream job and have your first day at work? Congratulations! Here are some Dos and Don’ts to make a great first impression.
When one talks about work – there are two days that are very critical – the day that you join an organization and the day that you leave one. This of course does not mean that the days in between are not – they are. But the first and last days are make-or-break days for your career. The things that happen, your reaction to them, and how you handle the ‘first hellos’ and ‘last goodbyes’ have a lasting effect on your career both within and outside the company, for many years to come.
In this article we’ll address the things that you must do and must not do on your first day at work to make a lasting positive impression on your new colleagues.
We know it’s a long list and some may find it difficult to follow all the Dos and Don’ts. If you realize you’ve made an error – be prompt to apologize and make amends. First days can be difficult, but if you follow the guidelines and let your good common sense rule – they’re not rocket science.
If you have any funny or scary first day stories share it with the community – let others learn from your bloopers or follow your good common sense.

UP Boards Topper Prachi Nigam was trolled on social media for her facial hair; our obsession with appearance is harsh on young minds.
Prachi Nigam’s photo has been doing the rounds on social media for the right reasons. Well, scratch that- I wish the above statement were true. This 15-year-old girl should ideally be revelling in her spectacular achievement of scoring a whopping 98.05% and topping her tenth-grade boards. But oddly enough, along with her marks, it’s something else that garners more attention – her facial hair.
While the trolls are driving themselves giddy by mocking this girl who hasn’t even completed her school yet, the ones who are taking her side are going one step ahead – they are sharing her photoshopped pictures, sans the facial hair, looking nothing less than a celebrity with captions saying – “Prachi Nigam, ten years later”.
Doctors have already diagnosed her with PCOD in their comments, based on photographic evidence. While we have names for people shamed for their weight – body shaming, for their skin colour- racism, for their age- age shaming, for being a female- sexism, this category of shaming where one faces criticism for their appearance has no name. With that, it also has zero shame attached to it.
