People have gross misconceptions about child sexual abuse, but boys and girls are equally susceptible to rape and abuse.
People have gross misconceptions about child sexual abuse, with many parents even believing that it only happens outside, when in fact, many CSA cases are reported against relatives or friends. Boys are equally susceptible to rape as well.
Yes it is not evident and not in our face, so we think it doesn’t exist. But Child Sexual Abuse does exist. You will be shocked to know that every year, more than 20,000 cases of child sexual abuse get reported in India alone yet there are many who do not see the light of day and those children who are exposed to this horrendous experience are stripped of their innocence and their trust for life.
Most Indian parents seldom listen to their children, leave alone talk to them. But educating your child and being vigilant all the time is the only way to save them. They cannot protect themselves, we can! Open your eyes! If you think your child or someone else’s child is being subject to sexual abuse and comes to you to expresses his/her trouble, then listen to them and believe in them; children rarely lie about sexual abuse. Support the child for speaking up and please do not shut them up; you will aggravate the problem. Assure them it is NOT their fault and that you are there to protect him/her
The video below is a part of #FullStop campaign launched by Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA), in association with Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation (KSCF). Their aim is to raise awareness about CSA as well as to empower and educate survivors and child victims and their loved ones. They also provide resources for teachers, social workers, medical professionals and the police.

UP Boards Topper Prachi Nigam was trolled on social media for her facial hair; our obsession with appearance is harsh on young minds.
Prachi Nigam’s photo has been doing the rounds on social media for the right reasons. Well, scratch that- I wish the above statement were true. This 15-year-old girl should ideally be revelling in her spectacular achievement of scoring a whopping 98.05% and topping her tenth-grade boards. But oddly enough, along with her marks, it’s something else that garners more attention – her facial hair.
While the trolls are driving themselves giddy by mocking this girl who hasn’t even completed her school yet, the ones who are taking her side are going one step ahead – they are sharing her photoshopped pictures, sans the facial hair, looking nothing less than a celebrity with captions saying – “Prachi Nigam, ten years later”.
Doctors have already diagnosed her with PCOD in their comments, based on photographic evidence. While we have names for people shamed for their weight – body shaming, for their skin colour- racism, for their age- age shaming, for being a female- sexism, this category of shaming where one faces criticism for their appearance has no name. With that, it also has zero shame attached to it.
