A woman within the four walls of a house, afraid at all times of the abuser coming back to torment her... what would be her state of mind?
Trigger Warning: This deals with violence against women and may be triggering to survivors.
Some days the halls of my abandoned castle rattle with shouts
Shouts of humans who used to live there
Some days I have the courage to peep through the keyhole
Hoping I don’t find any shadows catching up to me
Some days it’s easy to hide beneath those torn apart bed sheets
Watching my breath form dreamy mists in my make-believe world
Some days they find my hiding space
Drag me by my hair while I numb myself
Some days it’s easier to imagine my feet while I’m being dragged are just enjoying ballet
Spotlight blinding me in the dark hallways
Some days the tints are too loud for a temporary escape
Those days I’m painting the hallways with my feet, smiling, ready to drown…
Tiptoes and glossy eyes.
