Just as the team rejoices when the rocket is in the orbit, we have our team of friends, family and soul sisters who have cheered us when when we are down and encouraged us to push our boundaries.
The song “Shabaashiyan” has been running on a loop since morning, after I watched the movie ‘Mission Mangal’ yesterday night. It was a fantastic movie with top performances by all of the cast.
The lyrics of the song, that go as –
“kehte the log jo,
Kaabil nahin hain tu,
Denge wahi salamiaan!
(roughly translated as ‘let those people who say that you are not capable, applaud/ praise you’ and )
Dil thaam ke Jahaan
Dekhega ek din,
Teri bhi kaamyaabiyaan”
(roughly translated as ‘Let the world watch your success while ‘holding it’s breath(for lack of a better expression in my english vocabulary’)
– are so heartfelt and the song is such a beautiful positive affirmation that I am a happy mom when my son is hooked to it. Take a bow Mr. Amitabh Bhattacharya for the wonderful lyrics which have bundled into the song myriad emotions and situations. It is the most wonderful way to down the curtains on such a powerful movie which portrays one of the outstanding achievements in the history of India. Kudos to the music director, singers and to the entire team of ‘Mission Mangal”.
Apply this to real life and all of us can relate to it. Every person’s life is different and so are the challenges we face. Especially, as women, we are what we are today, after overcoming so many opinions of our ‘worthiness and capability’ (kaabiliath). Just as the team rejoices when the rocket is in the orbit, we have our team of friends, family and soul sisters who have cheered us when when we are down and encouraged us to push our boundaries. The task may be big or small, but every time you overcome a challenge or you are facing the hurdles that life sets up for you, listen to this song and give yourself some well deserved appluase for all your achievements till date and for the may more to come in future.
So play the song (attached is the link below), close your eyes and simply enjoy being all charged up!

UP Boards Topper Prachi Nigam was trolled on social media for her facial hair; our obsession with appearance is harsh on young minds.
Prachi Nigam’s photo has been doing the rounds on social media for the right reasons. Well, scratch that- I wish the above statement were true. This 15-year-old girl should ideally be revelling in her spectacular achievement of scoring a whopping 98.05% and topping her tenth-grade boards. But oddly enough, along with her marks, it’s something else that garners more attention – her facial hair.
While the trolls are driving themselves giddy by mocking this girl who hasn’t even completed her school yet, the ones who are taking her side are going one step ahead – they are sharing her photoshopped pictures, sans the facial hair, looking nothing less than a celebrity with captions saying – “Prachi Nigam, ten years later”.
Doctors have already diagnosed her with PCOD in their comments, based on photographic evidence. While we have names for people shamed for their weight – body shaming, for their skin colour- racism, for their age- age shaming, for being a female- sexism, this category of shaming where one faces criticism for their appearance has no name. With that, it also has zero shame attached to it.
