PCOS, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is something that is very common among girls. However, when you ask someone what is PCOS? You might see people puzzled and searching for an answer or to the most, will probably say that, it is a hormonal imbalance. This is true to an extent, because it is- an imbalance of hormones. A big portion of the female population have been struggling due to it, but have little to no information about it and that itself is an alarming situation. The survey depicts large number of girls going through this illness as 20% on an average but, apparently it is much more than the recorded census. 75% of women with PCOS remain undiagnosed, 35% of these never talk about PCOD, 65% of women do not know about the symptoms of PCOS, and in general more than 60% of the community haven\’t even heard about PCOD. Hence, not much research has been done for PCOS in India because of lack of funds. On the other hand, there is no permanent cure for this silent intruder but it affects women physically, mentally and emotionally. Our government and society should take this disorder seriously and address it at all platforms. There should be separate counselling departments in different hospitals for proper care and management of this evil. To make people aware, institutions should be opened to support females and campaigns can be organized for the betterment of women. We can save ample lives by discussing about it extensively which are lost to depression as it is the major cause under unattended circumstances. In urban areas, the use of google for current topics is used every day and women can be made aware of this but what about the rural areas? It is still thought to be not much more than just a simple case of \”Hormonal Changes\”! It affects an individual’s life drastically, it brings with it the whole burden of issues like- hair loss and hair thinning, severe weight gain, irregular menstrual cycle, facial hair growth, mood swings, skin darkening and acne. The metabolism goes down to zero or does not show any hope of losing weight, the weight which a normal person can reduce in 1-2 months, this same weight can take up to 6-7 months to drop down, the hair density gets reduced, whereas the human being is preventing unwanted hair growth in the rest of the body, periods are irregular accompanied by severe pain, the cravings are uncontrollable, bloating and abdominal discomfort starts with even a little bit of food, gluten and dairy products become like a curse, mood swing make it a daily struggle to cry or laugh, so basically the person’s confidence starts to waver. The entity gets into depression, and when you discuss with your doctor, it is not of much help. The worst hurdles comprise of major issues like- \”Infertility, abnormal uterine bleeding, preterm labour, depression, type 2 diabetes, miscarriage and sleep apnea all these comes under PCOS. Now readers must be wondering, what is PCOS? And when did PCOD transform to PCOD? PCOS is a severe form of PCOD. How good it would be if all the girls/women become familiar before this takes the form of PCOS from PCOD. Although, for an individual it may seem not much of a stressing cause. But these changes are enough to make a girl\’s life hell or make her go in depression. Even though there is no cure for it, don\’t give up hope ladies! You can still prevent it by changing your lifestyle – exercising regularly and eating nutritious meals! understanding the impact it can have on your life can help you to make healthier choices and ultimately lead to a PCOS free life..
