My Tryst With Tea

Most of us have known the quintessential chai or its sophisticated cousin introduced to us as ‘black tea’. Leaving the new age crowd, many of us began our initiation in the world of teas by Green tea. It is the ultimate solution for our deep rooted weight issues. The first glimpse of the Lipton Green Tea ad on the evening television made us take a trip to the local mall. The product of the adventure was the small hundred rupee Lipton loose Green Tea packet ,used sparingly and adding to my sense of self-worth for a whole summer.

Whether I lost weight or not is still disputable, but that was my foray in the world of teas- Matcha Green Tea, White Tea, Earl Grey, Rooibos.

The amazon dealer was certainly happy for the next two months as I ordered teas of all the colors in the rainbow.

Matcha Tea – most potent one, high antioxidants, even useful as a mask.

White Tea- highest antioxidants , aging- ‘I fear you no more’.

Earl Grey Bergamot Tea – Made me feel as part of the British Aristocracy.

Rooibos Tea – no caffeine, from South Africa, but something my palate would not like to repeat.

And to the caffeine haters, welcome to the world of dried fruit and spice tea- from dried apple, lemon , orange, cardamon, ginger to jeera tea .

Here Google was my best friend. I discovered a most unusual barley tea – a most touted skincare recipe. Then came the two purpose teas -a treat for the nose and the body.  I also discovered the ‘fragrant flower tea’ which is an experience in itself.

Lavender and Chamomile will make one feel as if one just stepped out of a spa. It is extremely relaxing after a long tiring day. It is almost like a perfume in a cup.

Rosemary Tea, RosehipTea- Powerful anti aging stuff. It makes you feel as if you have a secret power weapon when someone remarks about the several bottles of colorful water in the fridge. I was almost tempted t make  a mocktail out of the pink Rosehip Tea.

Lemongrass and  Peppermint Tea- Surprisingly invigorating and something that is just so pleasant after the hot sun.

Recently, I have come across a blue tea from the northeast. Well certainly too expensive right now .

My kitchen does not seem too happy with the overflowing cupboard full of tins of teas. You certainly buy stuff which catches your fancy but forget that somebody has to finish it. A diet of teas is well out of my reach.

The other day my room-mate threatened bodily harm if I dared to buy another tea packet without throwing out one. This has certainly lessened my enthusiasm for the time being. Not to mention my depleted bank balance. But, the latest tea on my radar is spearmint tea.
