And yes, when you don’t respect your mom, how will you respect me? Learn to respect women dear… and this learning must begin with your mom. All the best for your life – bbye!
It was 8 in the morning. I was peeping out of my room’s window with a mug of coffee in my hands. My phone beeped suddenly. It was my new boy friend’s message.
‘Meet at 10…CCD…dying to c u’
I threw the phone on my bed and went into the bathroom to get ready. It was not new to me. I had 26 failed relations till date and this was the 27 th one. Some wanted money, some wanted one night stands and some just wanted to fill the lack of a girl friend in their lives. Some lasted for a week, some struggled for months and some unfortunate ones existed only for few days.
This one had started just 5 days back.
I, in search of true love, (one that was written about many times in novels and displayed in Bollywood movies) was standing with the 27th trial on the doorstep of examination. Yes, I had a plan to test him today. I was in no mood to waste time on another man with no truth in his heart.
It was 10.15 am. He was sitting on the other side of the coffee table, right in front of me.
“So, You love me, right?” I begun the secret exam.
“Uncountably… deadly” he said.
“So – what future plans?” I asked
“I haven’t got time to think… your beautiful eyes are not allowing me to think anything apart from them.” He said with a flirtatious smile.
Oh, I hate such cheesy lines. But somehow I managed to smile.
“Can you tell your mom that you love me?” I enquired suspiciously.
” Noooooo… she will kill me… and moreover she has no role in this decision. I will leave my parents and will run away with you. I just want you in my life.” He said in one breath.
That was all. I had made my decision. Fortunately, it was last sip of my coffee. I stood up firmly with a smile. He was confused with my sudden action, left his seat, and stood up.
“There is no point wasting time dear. You decided to leave your parents for me, in just a second. For a girl whom you know just for 5 days. I can’t guarantee that you will live with me forever. And yes, when you don’t respect your mom, how will you respect me? Learn to respect women dear… and this learning must begin with your mom. All the best for your life – bbye!” I said with a firm tone, with my eyes on his, and left him standing with confused questioning gestures. I knew he will get all his answers soon.
I knew I had made a right decision. I walked away with a hope of true love waiting for me somewhere… maybe in the 28th trial.

People say that women are the greatest enemies of women. I vehemently disagree. It is the patriarchal mindset that makes women believe in the wrong ideology.
The entire world celebrates International Women’s Day on March 8, 2024. It should be a joyful day, but unfortunately, not all women are entitled to this privilege, as violence against women is at its peak. The experience of oppression pushes many women to choose freedom. As far as patriotism is concerned, feminism is not a cup of tea in this society.
What happens when a woman decides to stand up for herself? Does this world easily accept the decisions of women in this society? What inspires them to be free of the clutches of the oppression that women have faced for ages? Most of the time, women do not get the chance to decide for themselves. Their lives are always at the mercy of someone, which can be their parents, siblings, husband, or children.
In some cases, women do not feel the need to make any decisions. They are taught to obey the patriarchal system, which makes them believe that they are right. In my family, I was never taught to make decisions on my own. It was always my parents who bought dresses and all that I needed.
It is shameful that in today's world too, women are abused and even killed for giving birth to a girl, and the infant's life is also of no value.
Trigger Warning: This deals with domestic violence, suicide, and violence against women, and may be triggering to survivors.
I am so glad that the esteemed courts are now giving the much-required verdicts regarding certain ideologies that were not at all entertained earlier. I mean we all have studied this much biology at our school level and it is our duty (our generation) to educate our elders about it.
Why someone have to lose a life to bring such awareness to the society. Delhi High Court gave this judgement concerning a case that filed by the deceased daughter’s parents against her in-laws. She committed suicide as she was harassed and tortured for dowry and giving birth to two daughters.
