These Women Entrepreneurs In Technology Won The Prestigious Women Entrepreneur Quest!

Meet a few of the increasing number of women entrepreneurs in technology from India, building smart and innovative solutions for the real world. 

With the rising numbers of ambitious women entrepreneurs in India, it is important to develop this talent so that they go on to build large, sustainable and successful business.

The Women Entrepreneur Quest (WEQ) awards are a step in this direction. These awards have been created by the Anita Borg Institute India, a non-profit organization focused on the advancement of women in computing and technology, along with the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India; the WEQ is a unique contest for technology startups founded by women.

The awardees will receive exposure, capacity building and networking opportunities. The shortlisted entrepreneurs will get to visit leading technology companies, startups and hackerspaces in the Valley. The capacity building will comprise of visits to universities, workshops and interactions with mentors and investors.

With this list, we give you an insight to the chosen winners among the many ambitious women entrepreneurs in technology who had applied for the WEQ this year.

Ishita Anand, Founder and CEO, BitGiving

Launched in December 2013, BitGiving helps in raising funds and also encourages supporters and influencers to engage and endorse the campaigns and initiatives they believe in. It connects with social networks embedding functionalities and special campaigner mobile apps for campaign analytics and updates.  The platform supports events to encourage influencers to raise funds for a cause through communication and re-engagement. A freelance film-maker, Ishita holds a BA (Hons) degree in English from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi.

Shrishti Sahu, Founder and Director of Aqaya

Aqaya is a hybrid start-up that has established a strong presence in the Rural Development sector. Aqaya’s aim is to create prosperity through empowerment and promote human and societal flourishing. Shrishti is a part of The Sahu Group of Uttar Pradesh that is a conglomerate with strong brand presence in sectors such as Automotive, Hospitality, Consumer Goods, Real Estate & Infrastructure and Financial Services.

Richa Singh, Founder, YourDost

An IIT Guwahati alumnus, Richa Singh started this platform after a life changing event, touched her close friend circle. YourDOST is a web based platform that provides psychological and emotional counselling to those who need it. Richa’s journey, which started with a life changing event and eventually became an obsession to help people with problems they would not even talk about, is an inspirational one.

Roli Gupta, CEO, Oorjan

Oorjan is India’s first online platform focusing on financing rooftop solar projects across the country. Oorjan works with a network of installers and financiers to enable industrial, commercial and residential projects. An Engineer from IIT Bombay, she set up the venture in the year 2014, solving the energy crisis that the world is getting into.

Mayukni Pandey, Co-Founder, Greenopia

Mayukni Pandey has an engineering degree from Bhopal, and a masters from NID, Ahmedabad. Greenopia is a smart gardening kit that consists of one or multiple smart pots and a mobile application that helps a user monitor and take care of their plants remotely. The smart pot has sensors that detect the status of a plant, like whether it’s receiving enough water and sunlight, or if soil conditions are optimum. The app acts as a personal gardening assistant and suggests what the user could do to maintain a healthy plant. With lessons from two previous start ups, she surely is making a foray into the serial entrepreneurship world.

Arti Agarwal, Director, Anaxee Technologies

Anaxee Technologies is engaged in Biometrics, Identity Management and Pattern Recognition since the last five years. Having started their operations in 2008 from Indore, they currently have three offices – Hyderabad, Indore and Jabalpur. They specialize in biometrics based Identity management and attendance solutions.

Pooja Kothari, Managing Director, StoreMore

Pooka Kothari is an economics graduate from St. Stephen’s College and post-graduate from Delhi School of Economics. Pooja has been a management consultant with AF Ferguson, a features writer with The Economics Times, and in her last assignment, the editor of Inc. India magazine. StoreMore is a service for storing goods that you want to keep but don’t have the space for, and the team plans to expand to many Indian cities.

Binal Doshi, AVP – User Engagement at PlexusMD

Binal Doshi is a doctor armed with a management degree from IIM Kozikode. PlexusMD allows doctors to showcase their profile, find jobs and stay connected with hospitals and patients. Hospitals can use the portal to engage with doctors, fill up vacancies, promote courses and fellowships and also share news, research and updates.

Tanvi Bhardwaj, Co-Founder and CTO, Mishipay

Tanvi Bhardwaj has a Bachelors degree in Engineering from the University of Manchester along with various awards, to her credit. MishiPay allows in-store shoppers to simply pick up a product, scan the barcode with their phone, pay within their phone using the MishiPay app and walk out with the purchased products. Thus completely eliminating queuing from the point of sale.

Suhani Mohan, Co-Founder & CEO, Saral Designs

Saral Designs is working towards providing access to affordable and quality menstrual hygiene products to low-income women in India. With 3 years of investment banking experience, Suhani holds a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering and a Minor in Electrical Engineering from IIT Bombay.

Saral Designs has raised angel funding from prominent investors in the Powai Valley including Farooq Adam, Founder, Fynd and Ambi Parameswaran, Advisor, and Former CEO of FCB Ulka Advertising.
