Women’s dreams. They are always supposed to bend to the will of the dreams of those around us. Why? It is time this changes!
Have an aim. Be ambitious. Stand on your feet. Be independent. We all have heard these strong motivating lines in our life.
However, these are not so valid for women. For women, having an aim means get married at the right age. Be ambitious means, take care of your husband’s home. Stand on your feet means, you should be aware of all the household chores. Be independent means, dedicate your life to others.
When we talk about a woman in general, everyone pictures her like a pushover. She can be molded easily the way we want. And that’s what happens with their dreams too.
Their dreams are also constructed at every stage of their life by different people. Nobody cares about what they want or their dreams. Because the ultimate goal of a woman’s life should be to get married and have babies, right? And then there is the full stop to every woman’s life. Dreams are shut down forever.
Why are women’s dreams not long lived?
Why do their dreams have an expiry date?
Why is it so hard for people to believe in them?
Why do they think that women can only be a wife or a mother, not a CEO or an entrepreneur?
Why do they think that a woman is considered settled only if she is married?
Men have goals too. Nobody asks them to quit their goals and tells them to sit at home and look out after the home or kids. We have created this image in our mind where a man is supposed to go out and make money and a woman apparently looks good while cooking food.
Oh I am sorry. Actually we live in a hypocrite society. We want education for our girls. We want jobs for our women. We want to see every woman standing tall with the men. But as soon as she steps ahead from a man, we pull her away from her dreams. Because we live in a patriarchal society. No matter how strong minded you are, you have to stand behind the man. That’s right. You just cannot speak your mind. And darling, if you are married, then you just have to zip your lips. They won’t appreciate your opinions rather they will consider you as a cunning and over smart woman.
We need to stop being regressive when it comes to the women of our society. Women are equally good and we can do much better if given the right opportunities. ‘Progressive nation’ is not only about the technologies and machines. It is also about being progressive in our thoughts.
Men are becoming chefs. This is progressive. Breaking all the stereotypes. They are doing pretty well what supposedly women are asked to do. If you don’t believe turn on your television to any cookery channel.
On the other hand, we have these powerful women. Arundhati Bhattacharya, Chairperson of SBI bank. Chanda Kochhar, MD and CEO of ICICI Bank. Priyanka Chopra, a global icon for youth.
So yes, we need to change our perspective for a better place of our women. We are women, and we are also humans with our dreams.
