How can anyone justify or even make sense of the rape of children – 11 month olds or 5-6 year olds? Only twisted minds can contemplate these things.

Objectification, discrimination, ‘man-handling’ in blatant or subtle ways is a part and parcel of a woman’s life. However when one hears of rape, it sends shivers down the spine. Even trying to understand the mind frame of a being who can could violate a 11 month old or a 5 year old is futile.

Below are a few lines to capture the pain…and freedom from it…

Looking up to find the sky
There is none…

Flapping hard trying to fly
There was no sun…

Straddled in chains for a man’s pleasure
Drowned in tears, sympathy in no measure

Darkness looms all around, every whiff of air suffocates
An angel smiles a ray of hope, cutting through the shackles of fear

As if magical, the chains loosen and the skies appear

She flies and flies and aims for the sun
Doesn’t matter the destination, but for sure there is no return

  1. This is a beautiful poem Rumanna – it captures so well the pain of being trapped and the joy of release and ultimate freedom. When the soul has been trapped in darkness -its eyes are blinded to the use of its own wings. But when strength finally comes and come it must – strong wings will carry it surely- to the light and way beyond! This is true of any and every cold or dark winter in one’s life. I like the depth of this poem.
